How I Lost 5 Stone In 6 Months

On the 8th October 2018 I started a health and fitness journey. I started working out frequently and eating healthier. On the 20th March 2019 I had lost 5 stone. I have had several questions on my Instagram how I lost my weight so I thought I would share how I did it.

The first thing I did was reduce my calorie intake. I use an app called My Fitness Pal where I can track what I eat and how many calories is in each item. In order to lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit. I used a tdee calculator online to work out how many calories my body roughly needs in order to lose 1 – 2 lbs a week.   This calculator also works if you are maintaining or bulking.  This has changed over time as I have lost weight.

I then use the gyms app to track my exercises I was doing in the gym. I do a mixture of cardio and weights. At the beginning of my journey I was going around 4/5 times a week but after Christmas I increased that to around 7-9 times a week.  A combination of working out and tracking my calories is what has allowed me to lose 5 stone in 6 months. Some weeks I would lose 1-2lbs others I would lose 3-4 lbs it just varies week by week. Also, around the time of the month I find I usually put on a couple of pounds and then the following week I would lose it plus more.

As well as the above I also drink around 3-4 litres of water a day to make sure I am hydrated and reduce water retention.  In the beginning a lot of the weight I lost was water weight as I stopped drinking fizzy drinks and only drank water and almond milk. I also reduced my alcohol intake and don’t really drink as much anymore.

Now and again I don’t stick to a strict plan and allow myself to treat myself. I still drink fizzy pop and eat chocolate in moderation. You shouldn’t stop yourself eating and drinking things you enjoy.
